Volunteering Opportunities

WANA is always in need of individuals and groups looking to volunteer at its soup kitchen, food pantry, and refugee shelter. Browse through the opportunities detailed below and let us know what interests you by completing a form.

Location

All volunteering opportunities are located at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Harlem.

It is easily accessible from the 1, A, B, C, & D train stations on 125th Street.

Volunteering
Positions

In-Person Volunteering

Overnight Shelter Volunteer
(Daily, 8PM – 7AM)
Duties could include: checking guests in; helping guests set up their beds; turning on lights and opening doors for the day in the morning. Must be vaccinated.

Monday Client Choice Food Pantry
(Mondays, 4PM – 6pm)
Duties could include: stocking food; shopping with clients; registering clients; de-escalating conflict; building community with clients and volunteers.

Friday Hot Meal & Movie Night
(Fridays, 5PM – 9PM)
Duties could include: cooking; cleaning; serving clients food; encouraging activities (e.g.: open mics and conversations).

Homeless Outreach & Mobile Soup Kitchen
(Saturdays, Noon – 2PM)
Duties could include: putting together sandwiches or care packages; cooking and preparing 100 meals in to-go containers; walk around the community and hand out meals and sandwiches to homeless people.

Driver - Homeless Outreach & Mobile Soup Kitchen 
(Saturdays, Noon – 2PM)
Involves driving outreach volunteers and food to areas with high rates of homelessness to help distribute meals.

Community Fridge Maintenance/Cleaning

Languages most needed: Spanish, French, Russian. (Varies based on community needs.)

NYC Guide 
(As needed)
Support clients by traveling with them to and from essential appointments.
